Query

AI that reads your schema

NexQL Free AI (Smart, Engineer and Architect modes) works with no API key. You can also bring OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, GitHub Models or the VS Code language model. AI never auto-runs: you insert the SQL into a notebook cell and press Run.

How you use it

  1. Open the SQL Assistant beside your code

    Use the activity bar panel or an editor tab. @mention tables by dragging from the explorer or using the picker.

  2. Ask in plain English

    The assistant grounds on your connected database, so it uses tables that exist.

    Top 10 customers by revenue last 30 days,
    exclude cancelled orders
  3. Review the SQL, then insert it into a notebook

    Generated SQL lands in a new cell. You decide whether to run it.

    SELECT c.name, SUM(o.amount) AS revenue
    FROM customers c
    JOIN orders o ON o.customer_id = c.id
    WHERE o.status <> 'cancelled'
    GROUP BY c.name
    ORDER BY revenue DESC LIMIT 10;
  4. Explain, optimize or debug from a result

    CodeLens on notebook cells offers Ask AI, Explain Analyze and Optimize. In agentic mode the assistant can search the schema and run read-only tools.
